At the Nov. 13 regular meeting of the Alton School Board the date, time and place was set for those wishing to file as school board candidates.
Filling begins Dec. 16 at 8 a.m. and ends Jan. 20 at 5 p.m. at the superintendent's office.
Filing will not occur on days when the offices are closed due to inclement weather or during the Christmas break: Dec. 24 to Jan. 1. The school board election is scheduled for April 6.
Two positions are available with three-year terms.
Superintendent Sheila Wheeler cited RSMo 162.291 for the requirements for Board members: "Citizens of the United States and resident taxpayers of the district who have resided in this state for one year next preceding their election or appointment, and who are at least 24 years of age.
Dennis Smith and Tom Clary, whose terms are expiring, have not stated whether they will seek re-election.
Wheeler said board members set policies and the direction and mission of the school.
"With the super staff and administration, everything is running smoothly. There's really nothing to it," the superintendent said.
