Roland Boyd Williams, 91, of Thayer, Mo., was born Oct. 2, 1912 in Fulton County, Ark., the son of John Henry Williams and Rosetta Earls Williams. He died July 26, 2004, at Poplar Bluff VA Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was married to Cuba Verneal Evans at Manila, Ark., Oct. 24, 1936.
He was owner of PM Cleaners in Thayer, Mo. and worked part time for Carter Funeral Home Inc. He was in the United States Navy serving in World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Vincent-Langston-Lunn VFW Post and the American Legion, Post 55 of Mammoth Spring. He was a member of Mason 463 in Thayer and was a member of the First Christian Church. in Mammoth Spring.
Survivors include two sons -- Dean Williams and wife, Fern of Conway, Ark., and Boyd Williams and wife, Phyllis of Thayer; a daughter, Ginny DePriest of Mammoth Spring; seven grandchildren -- Jennifer Yeager and husband Doug of Sparta, Mo., Jackie DePriest of Aurora, Mo., Joe DePriest and wife, Anisa of Aurora, Mo., Jane DePriest of Springfield, Mo., Bob Williams and wife, Ginger of Branson, Mo., Deanna Smith of Rogersville, Mo., and Lana Hastings and husband, Tommy of Woodland, Texas; 13 great-grandchildren -- Amanda, Brandon, Katie, Amber, Elizabeth, Myleah, Gage, Austin, Casey, Carter, Nathan, Olivia and Haley; and four sisters -- Bessie Vaughn of West Plains, Bernice Rogers of Thayer, Tressie Quimby of Thayer and Margarett Morgan of West Plains.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents and a brother, Russell Williams.
The funeral was July 28 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Bill Bales and Gill Hogue both officiating. Arrange- ments were under the direction of Carter Funeral Home Inc. of Thayer, Mo.
