COUCH SCHOOL -- Six members of the Couch FFA chapter, Jennifer Wrenfrow, Vanessa Burgard, Tonya Combs, Ashley Hensley, Sara Hubbell and Jessi Stakely, attended State FFA Camp located at Camp Rising Sun on Lake of the Ozarks during the week of July 18-12.
During the week, campers attended sessions and workshops focusing on setting goals for the future, discovering more about themselves and achieving success. Special speakers from the Missouri Department of Conservation, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Missouri colleges, Missouri Farm Bureau and the Missouri Egg Council spoke to the FFA members about careers, ag literacy, issues in agriculture, conservation and patriotism, along with leadership and personal development. They had the opportunity to participate in sports and waterfront activities, also.
The campers also enjoyed a dance and a trip to Lee Mace's Ozark Opry.
During the week, several members received awards for their participation in activities. Hubbell, Hensley, Burgard, Combs and Wrenfrow, received state leadership medals, and Hensley also received the All-Around Camper award.
Combs placed first in the creed speaking contest, and Hensley placed first in extemporaneous speaking.
In waterfront contests, Stakely's team placed first in the swamp canoe and second in the lifeline rescue.
