Joe McCollom, age 77 of Alton, M0., was born June 26, 1926, in Detroit, Mich., and passed away Feb. 10, 2004, at the Shady Oaks Nursing Home in Thayer, Mo.
Joe lead an interesting and full life. A veteran of World War II, in the U.S. Naval Air Force he served in the South Pacific theater; and was a General Motors spokesperson and presenter of GM Motorama dream cars in Detroit, Mich., and across the country He was a lawyer, assistant district attorney and District Court Judge in Jackson, Mich.; contractor for beverage sales at the Houston, Texas Astrodome skyboxes, and was an organic market gardener in Alton, Mo. He loved life and followed the path of his dreams.
Survivors include: his wife; Mollie Savage, of Alton; three children -- Michael McCollom and wife, Wendy, of Orinda, Calif., Mark McCollom and wife, Janet, of Howell, Mich. and Cathy Irwin and husband, Tom, of Monmouth, Maine; six grandchildren -- Tamar, Kerrie, Shawn, Sammie, Sarah, and Becca; one great-granddaughter, Isabel Rose; a brother, Don McCollom and wife, Anne, of Sacramento, Calif.; three nieces -- Beth McCollom of Lincoln Park, Mich., Barbara McCollom of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Elaine McCollom of Sacramento, Calif; his mother in-law, Larrie Savage; a sister-in-law, Kasey Miller, and husband, husband, Reed and family, of Sherwood, Ark.; three brothers-in-law -- Jeff Savage, wife, Penny and family of Ludington, Mich., Bob Savage, wife, Karen, and family of Birmingham, Ala., J.B. Savage, wife Tami and family of Maumelle, Ark., and numerous wonderful friends he considered his extended family.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held in the spring. Cremation services were provided by Clary Funeral Home, Alton, Mo.
