Spring is in the air around the Ozarks and Mammoth Spring State Park is full of activities that will carry on through the end of October.
The park is located just north of Sharp County on Highway 63 at Mammoth Spring.
The next event scheduled at the park is Herbfest. This will take place April 10. The Mammoth Spring Garden Club will be at the park to answer questions about growing and harvesting herbs.
Garden Club members said this is an excellent time for area residents to pick up herbs to make herb gardens complete. The Herbfest starts at 9 a.m.
On April 11 the annual Easter egg hunt will be at the park. Over 4,000 candy- and prize-filled eggs will be hidden for three age groups: 1 to 3, 4 to 7 and 8 to 11. The egg hunt starts promptly at 2 p.m. near the ballfield.
Free Museum Day will take place at the park May 1. This is an opportunity for area residents to take a step back in time at the 1886 Frisco Depot Museum. Visitors can hear stories of the depot, its passengers and train crew.
The Spring River Cleanup is set for May 26. This is where individuals and and area agencies canoe down the Spring River and pick up trash. Those planning to participate are asked to be at the Tourist Information Center at 8:15 a.m. They will need to register by May 23 and may do so by calling the park at 870-625-7364.
The third annual Knap-In is set at the park for June 18-20. This is where the primitive art of making and using stone tools and arrowheads will be demonstrated.
The 111th annual Old Soldiers Reunion will be at the park Aug. 2-7. This will include a carnival, bingo, prizes, crafts, food and special programs. the reunion is sponsored by local VFW Post 7831.
A Civil War re-enactment will be held during the reunion Aug. 7. It will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. A skirmish between Union and Confederate troops will be held at 2 p.m.
The 21st Annual Mammoth Spring Antique and Classic Car show is set for Sept. 4 at the park.
The 6th Annual spirit of Kountry Gospel Singing is scheduled at the park for Oct. 3. This is an old fashioned singing that will begin at 2 p.m. near the ball field.
A Flint Knapping Workshop is set for Oct. 30, and people planning to attend need to register by Oct. 27.
The last event of the season at Mammoth Spring State Park is Bat Mania. This is scheduled for Oct. 30. Participant will learn the mysteries and myths of bats. Bat houses and bat house kits will be available the day of the event.
