A Salem woman was killed April 1 in a one-vehicle accident south of Evening Shade on Highway 167.
Theresa Ann Schwarz, 42, was a passenger in a northbound 1992 Ford Escort driven by Linda Hofmann, 46, of Henderson. The vehicle traveled onto the shoulder of the road, skidded 193 feet, hit a telephone pole, skidded another 68 feet and came to rest in the northbound lane, according to a report from Trooper Phillip Roark with the Arkansas State Police. Schwarz was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident occurred around 3:50 p.m, Roark said. Hofmann was wearing a seat belt, but Schwarz was not, the trooper said.
Hofmann was injured in the accident and was transported to White River Medical Center in Batesville. She was listed in satisfactory condition as of press time Monday.
