Mavis Ella Underwood, 56, of Viola, Ark., daughter of Dorothy Marine Sullivan Winberry and the late James Wesley Winberry was born Feb. 17, 1947, in Fort Clayton, Panama. She died Dec. 12, 2003, at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Ark.
She married Georgie Ishmal Underwood Dec. 23, 1966, at Salem, Ark., and to this union three daughters were born. During her working years, she was employed by Marbax Shirt Factory, Capitol Shirt Factory and Baxter Lab. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her children -- Cinda Craven of Viola, Bertha Walker and husband, Robert, of West Memphis; and Janie Underwood and husband, Robert Moberly, of Jonesboro; her mother, Dorothy Winberry of Neosho, Mo.; three brothers -- Wesley Winberry of California, Johnnie Allen Winberry of Cordova, Calif., and David Esque Winberry of Neosho, Mo.; two sisters -- Betty Jean Smith of Neosho, Mo., and Zella Marine Ashley of Viola.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981; her father in 1992, a brother, Martin Winberry and special friend, Obie Utchmen.
The funeral was Dec. 17 at Cox-Blevins Chapel in Salem. Burial was at the Viola Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem.
