ALTON -- For many, October seems like months in the future but the Alton Chamber of Commerce reminds us that it is quickly approaching and with October comes the 17th annual Black Gold Walnut Festival.
The festival is scheduled for Oct. 5 and chamber officials anticipate it to be the biggest arts and crafts show and sale ever.
"Because the Most Creative Booth contest was such a big hit last year we have decided to continue the tradition," a chamber official said. They said what the vendor is selling will not be judged but how they enhance their booth's appearance and how creative vendors are in their booth's designs. The winner of the contest will receive $50. "We are doing this to help our festival grow," the chamber official said.
Booth spaces for the festival will be $25, or $35 with electricity. Exhibitors will be responsible for providing their own tables, chairs, tents and whatever else is needed.
Only handmade and crafter items will be accepted at the festival. Product demonstrations, information booths, game booths and booths of special interest are also welcome.
On the day of the festival booths must be ready for display by 8 a.m. Hours of the Black Gold Walnut Festival will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The 17th Black Gold Walnut Festival is listed in the Missouri Tourism Guide. For more information contact Dinah Slaughter at 417-778-1700.
