Hubbub at the hub of it all

An Alton, Mo., man ran his truck through a Hardy business while traveling on Highway 63 July 31.

William Cunningham, 40, was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Silverado north on Highway 63 about 3 miles north of Hardy when he lost control of his pickup, traveled across the center line and into the opposite lane of traffic, said Arkansas State Trooper Daniel Busch. The pickup truck then traveled into the ditch and through a wire fence, he said. Cunningham then struck a shop building owned by Bill Hosman who owns Bill's Hubcaps, Busch said.

Hosman's wife, Kathy, said she and her husband watched the wreck happen.

They were on their way home from Batesville and traveling north on 63 when Kathy Hosman noticed the pickup truck in front of them travel off the road and through their fence.

"I couldn't believe it" she said.

Cunningham was transported to Fulton County Hospital by Spring River Paramedic Ambulance Service. Officers at the scene said they thought Cunningham suffered a seizure while driving. Cunningham's girlfriend, who was a passenger in the pickup along with a small dog, was not injured in the wreck.

No injuries were reported in a July 28 wreck on Bowman Hill near Hardy.

According to a report by Sharp County Deputy Jeremy Qualls, Jarett Lewis, 20, of Cleveland, Miss., was driving a 2003 Nissan Altima north on Highway 63 around 3 p.m. when he lost control of the car and crossed into the southbound lane. The car traveled off the road and overturned several times before it came to rest on its top in the southbound lane, Qualls said. Neither Lewis nor his passenger, 20-year-old Cordarryl Wright also of Cleveland, Miss., were injured in the crash. They were both wearing seatbelts at the time of the wreck, Qualls said.
