Delbert Wayne ?Hughes died at his home in Koshkonong, Mo., on July 24, 2007, at 80 years of age. He was born Aug. 6, 1926, in Grape Creek, Ill., as the seventh of eight children.
Mr. Hughes was married to Virginia Iola Eckel on June 24, 1944, in Danville, Ill. The couple had five daughters. He was a veteran of World War II and served honorably in the U.S. Navy as Seaman First Class aboard the U.S.S. Benjamin Franklin in the North Atlantic, prior to transfer to the U.S.S. Charles Schribner.
He was a master machinist by trade, employed by A.W. Cash of Decatur, Ill. and Ellsworth, Kan. He transferred to Rohr Aircraft in San Diego, Calif., where he machined parts for numerous fighter jets, stealth aircraft and the shuttle. Mr. Hughes and his wife retired to Koshkonong, Mo. in 1991.
He is survived by: his two sisters, MaryLou Hughes, of Westville, Ill., and Bertha Lyons of Clinton, Ill.; three daughters, Liana Mazhar of Koshkonong, Cathie Bair of Thayer and Betty Butts of Koshkonong; 17 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Ed Hughes and Flossie Davis-Hughes; his adoptive parents, ?Nathaniel and Mary Rogers; his wife, Virginia who died April 29, 1996; several brothers and sisters; two daughters, Amy Lynn Hughes and Donna Marie Owen; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service for Mr. Hughes was held on Aug. 4 with Rev. Ron Richardson officiating. Arrangements were made under the direction of the Clary's Funeral Services of Mammoth Spring. Burial followed in the Koshkonong Cemetery.
