Thursday, July 11, 2002

After being charged with the murder of an Agnos man, two suspects, Timothy Est, 19, and Jessie Petty, 20, were transported to the Fulton County jail July 8. A third suspect, Billy Jack Wilson, 26, of Batesville was released from Independence County jail July 5 after he paid a reduced bond in the amount of $25,000, said Salem Police Chief Albert Roork. Two other suspects, Brian Keith Shankle, 18, and Bobby Woodrum, 18, were arrested June 27 at Boggy Landing near Elizabeth by the Arkansas State Police SWAT team and charged with capital murder for the death of Russell "Joe" Fisk who was found in his home with a belt wrapped around his neck. Both remain in the Fulton County jail after being denied bail by Circuit Judge John Dan Kemp at their formal arraignment, said Fulton County Deputy Paul Martin. According to affidavits recorded in the clerk's office the five men had gone to the Fisk residence the night of the murder, June 24. A witness said Woodrum and Shankle went inside the home and argued with Fisk about money Fisk owed Woodrum for some lawn work. The witness reported that Woodrum told her he had struck Fisk in the face with his fist, causing Fisk to fall and strike his head on a cabinet. The witness said Woodrum told her the men fled the residence, not knowing whether Fisk was alive or dead.Bond for Petty, Est and Wilson had been set at $100,000, but Wilson's bond was reduced. Sheriff Lloyd Martz said he received word of the bond reduction from the prosecutor's office. The five suspects will appear at the Fulton County Courthouse for a pretrial hearing Aug. 6, said Martz.
