Buford Floyd Lafferty, 84, son of the late Spencer O'Gustus Lafferty and Mattie Florence Stirling Lafferty, was born Dec. 29, 1917, in Camden, Tenn., and died July 9, 2002, in West Plains, Mo. He was married March 21, 1944, in East Prairie, Mo., to Mary Magdaline Capps.Survivors include his wife, Mary of the home in Thayer; two sons, Dannie Floyd Lafferty and wife, Linda of Salem, Ark., and Buford Duane Lafferty of Thayer; one daughter, Shirley Jean Fritts and husband, Wayne of Laquey, Mo.; fourteen grandchildren, Twila Moore, Vanessa Lafferty, Cheryl Walsh, Brad Pierce, Tony Pierce, Dawn Adams, Michele Duke, Jason Lafferty, Jered Lafferty, Josh Lafferty, Sabrina Lafferty, Mike Prorok, Chandra Hanson, and Tony Hanson; 15 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Austin Moore, Jessica, Jodie, Taylor and Forrest Walsh, Tyler and Brooke Selby, Zacherie Prorok, Amanda and Becka Duke, Anthony Pierce, Kevin Sandridge, Colten and Samantha Pierce and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Donna Sue Lafferty; two great-grandchildren; six brothers, and two sisters. He was a long-time businessman in Thayer and Mammoth Spring, a former Councilman and Mayor for the City of Thayer. He was an ardent St. Louis Cardinal fan and a yellow dog Democrat. He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Thayer, Mo.Graveside services were Friday, July 12, 2002, at the Thayer Cemetery in Thayer, Mo., with Rev. Perry Morris officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. of Thayer.Pallbearers were Brad Pierce, Jason Lafferty, Kenny Moore, Tony Pierce, Denny Walsh, and Mike Prorok.Honorary pallbearers were Allen Deckard, Paul Brewer, and Phil Hollis.
