OREGON COUNTY - Officials with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) recently announced snow removal techniques and amounts of material used during the most recent snow fall in Oregon County.
The storm began at Alton at 11:30 p.m. Feb. 5. Snow accumulations were approximately four inches ending the next day. Alton maintenance crews used approximately 10,400 gallons of salt brine to pretreat the routes and 14 yards of salt along with 120 yards of snow and ice mix to fight the storm.
Thayer maintenance crews used 2,400 gallons of salt brine to pretreat areas before the storm.
Snow accumulation in the Thayer area was four to five inches. Thayer crews used three yards of salt, 33 yards of abrasives and 23 bags of calcium to fight the storm.
In other MoDOT news, this week Alton maintenance crews will be doing pipe replacement work on Route A. Alton crews will also be cutting brush on Business Route 19.
MoDOT officials said signs and flaggers will be conducting traffic and setting signs in the work areas and motorists are urged to drive with caution.
Alton and Thayer crews will be sealing cracks on Route 63 in the northbound lane from the Arkansas stateline to Junction Route 142 at the stop light at Thayer.
Motorists are again urged to drive with caution in all MoDOT work areas.
