Ernest O. Wood, son of the late James and Mary Geneva Vincent Wood, was born on April 14, 1908, in Koshkonong, Mo. He died Feb. 10, 2003, in Batesville, Ark. at the age of 94 years.
Ernest was united in marriage to Mary Wilkison Nov. 6, 1937, in Puxico, Mo. To this union two daughters were born. After Mary's death in 1980, he married Mary Martin.
He spent most of his life as a farmer. He was a member of Melbourne Masonic Lodge and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters -- Ernestine "Tene" Todd of Hot Springs, and Carol Wood of the home; a sister -- Aliene Parish of Melbourne; three step-daughters -- Ivaughn Sims, Sue Kimmer and Willie Howard, all of Cushman; three grandchildren -- Karen Lemmer of Viliona, Cristy Harrison of Lonoke, and Jerry Halbrook of Jacksonville; and five great-grandchildren -- Megan and Emily Lemmer, Taylor and Molly Harrison, and Michael Halbrook.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; five brothers -- Arthur, Leo, Homer, Lawrence, and Wayne Wood; a sister, Ruby Maxey; and a stepson, Jack Martin.
The funeral was Feb. 12 at Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne. Burial followed at the Violet Hill Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home, of Melbourne.
Pallbearers included Earvin Ray Dover, Dewey Love, Tim Smith, Gene Helm, John Brown, Jack Morgan, David Miller and Tilman Williams.
Honorary pallbearers included Judy Duke, Rita Foree, Carrie Wright, Kelly Brown, Kathy Cheatham, Denise Darland, Kathy Rogers and Lois Wilson.
