Bernice Isabelle Roper Arnold, 88, daughter of the late Joseph Bonapart and Jennie Ruth Nimmo Roper was born June 8, 1914, at Viola. She died Feb. 8, 2003, at Independence, Mo. She was united in marriage to Johnnie Mylo Arnold on May 15, 1932, at Viola, and to this union a daughter was born. She spent her working years as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and a homemaker. Bernice was a member of Salem First Baptist Church.
She leaves to mourn her passing: a daughter, Debbie Perdue and her husband, Dean of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Emil Nimmo and his wife, Mary of Ridgecrest, Calif.; a sister, Jeanne Cotter and her husband, Marvin of Viola; two granddaughters -- Sherry Singleton and Shauna Orthman and her husband, Sam of Lee's Summit, Mo.; three great-grandchildren -- Dawnisa Singleton, Alicia Singleton, and Eiman Orthman of Lee's Summit, Mo.; one great-great-grandson, Jestic Singleton of Lee's Summit, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie; her parents, Joseph and Jeanie; two brothers -- Clifton and Paul; and two sisters -- Elsie and Bertha Lee.
Service were Feb. 8, 2003, at the Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem. Interment was in the Flora Cemetery in Viola, with arrangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
Pallbearers were Donald Vanderpool, Larry Luther, Dennis Williams, Dennis Roper, Calvin Cotter and Terry Roper.
Honorary pallbearers were Rodney Barker, Harold Cotter, Kenneth Roper, J. C. Roper and Bobby Roper.
