Howard R. Simpson, 94, of Poughkeepsie, died Jan. 1, 2005, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock. He was born Feb. 26, 1910, at Poughkeepsie to Charles E. and Rebecca Jane Howard Simpson.
He owned and operated Heath Hardware in Detroit for many years, was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a Mason and a member of Little Spring Missionary Baptist Church in Poughkeepsie where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include his wife, Lorena Simpson of the home; a son, Gaylon S. Simpson of Sherwood; a brother, W.C. Simpson of Missouri; two sisters -- Mattie Lee Bromley of Virginia, and Allie Jean Walker of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren -- Glenn R. Simpson of Sheridan, and Rebecca S. Heimlich of Cincinnati, Ohio; three great-grandchildren -- Justin Simpson and Alexa Simpson, both of Sheridan, and Henry Heimlich of Cincinnati, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers -- Fred Simpson, Leon Simpson and Newton Simpson; and three sisters -- Ina Stutts, Lena Freeman and Violet Heath.
The funeral was Jan. 4 at Little Springs Missionary Baptist Church located at Poughkeepsie with W.E. Norris officiating.
Burial followed in Spotts Cemetery at Poughkeepsie with arrangements under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Pallbearers were Charles Stutts, William Lee Simpson, James Simpson, Charles Simpson, Ronald Simpson and Buster Simpson.
