A fourth-period that was as cold as the temperature outside proved to be the undoing for the Mammoth Spring Lady Bears in their quarterfinal tilt with the Sulphur Rock Lady Wildcats in the 19th annual George Kell Hall of Fame Classic Jan. 13 in Swifton.
Going without a field goal for almost seven minutes of the final frame, the Lady Bears, currently ranked number 10 in Class A hoops, fell to Sulphur Rock 49-36.
Two of Mammoth Spring's (16-3) losses this year have came at the hands of Sulphur Rock.
The Lady Bears got off to a good start and moved in front 12-9 after the first period of play, only to see the Lady Wildcats outscore Mammoth Spring 14-6 in the second period to grab the lead, 23-18, at the half.
Trailing 36-28 heading into the fourth period, Mammoth Spring suffered a cold spell, managing only eight points down the stretch, with Sulphur Rock holding on to advance in the tourney.
Madison Busch led Mammoth Spring with nine points. Mammoth Spring's Ann Whiteside was named to the All-Kell Classic team.
