Lillie Myrtle Roper, of Viola, daughter of the late Murphy Allen and Mary Leonola Sanders Crawford, was born Aug. 23, 1918, in Bakersfield, Mo. She died Oct. 31, 2003, at Ash Flat Nursing Center at the age of 85.

She married Joseph Clifford Roper Sept. 5 1937, at Vidette, Ark. She was a cook for many years at the Holiday Inn in Mountain Home. She was also employed by Fulton County Nursing Home as a CNA. At age 16, she became a member of Bakersfield Assembly of God church. After she married she began attending services at Enterprise Baptist Church and continued there for 66 years.

Survivors include her sons -- Carl Roper and wife, Mary, J.C. Roper and wife, Anne, and Johnnie Roper and wife, Bonnie, all of Viola; her daughters -- Joan Nelson and Audra Wilson and husband, Chester, all of Viola; three brothers -- Johnny Crawford of Horseshoe Bend, Macneil Crawford of Kansas City, Kan., and Ernest Crawford of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters -- Madge McCracken of Ramona Calif., and Thelma Springer of Enid, Okla.; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Patricia Roper; one son-in-law, Bill Nelson; two brothers -- Henry and Roy Crawford; one sister, Ethel Sullins; and her father and mother.

The funeral was Nov. 3 at Enterprise Baptist Church. Burial was at Pickren Hall Cemetery with arrangements by Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem.
