Lorene Brown Soward, age 72, of Ash Flat, died Jan. 1, 2003, at her home. She was born Feb. 15, 1930, at Evening Shade to Earl and Maud Elizabeth Ferguson Brown. She was a certified nursing assistant having worked at Ash Flat Convalescent Center, Horse-shoe Bend Nursing Home and the Cherokee Village Recreation Center. She was active in the Indian Hills Bowling League and was a member of the Ash Flat Church of Christ.Survivors are her husband, Hubert Soward of the home; one daughter, Renee Bell of Batesville; one brother, Nelson Brown of Batesville; three sisters -- Fay Frazier and Lillian Stroud both of Evening Shade, and Norma Smith of Cave City; two grandchildren -- Chris Phillips of Little Rock and Carla Duncan of Batesville; one great-grandson, Bradley Phillips of Little Rock; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Velma Polk.Services were Jan. 4, 2003, at Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Bro. Boyce Gale Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Antioch Cemetery at Zion with arrangements under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
