Horace O. Watson, 95, of Viola, son of the late H.E. and Cora Gilstrap Watson was born Oct. 6, 1907, in Viola, Ark. He departed this life Jan. 2, 2003, at his home in Viola. He was united in marriage to Kowanda Carroll on Oct. 7, 1934. He attended high school and college in southwestern Oklahoma. He lived an active life. He was a member of the Viola United Methodist Church for many years. He served on the church board. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years.He served on the Fulton County Hospital Board, the Fulton County Democratic Committee, the Salem Senior Citizens Board, the Viola School Board, and the Viola City Council. He retired from the Arkansas Welfare System.Survivors include his wife, Kowanda of the family home in Viola; his daughter and son-in-law, Carol Ann and Charles Hill of Cherokee Village; his granddaughter, Dee Ann McCoy and husband, Clint of Benton; one sister-in-law, Mildred Watson of Dumas; one brother-in-law, Erby Carroll and wife, Ella Maye of West Plains; one niece and three nephews.He was preceded in death by two sisters; one brother; his father and mother; and devoted step-mother, Clessie Watson.Services were Jan. 5 at Viola United Methodist Church with Doug Criss officiating. Burial was in the Viola Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem.Memorials may be made to the Viola United Methodist Church.
