Walter Baxter Hall, 81, son of the late Baxter Hall and Stella Cockrill Hall was born in Sage, Ark. on Oct. 1, 1921. He departed this life Dec. 19, 2002, at the White River Medical Center in Batesville.During his working years he was a cattle and forage farmer. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. However, he was primarily an educator, which was his life's devotion. He formerly taught vocational education at Mt. Pleasant and was principal and science teacher at Black Rock. He served as superintendent of Pulaski Special School District in Little Rock, Ark. He was assistant professor at Southwest Missouri State University and Drury College. He was the first director of Ozarka Technical College in Melbourne, serving in that capacity from 1973 to 1987.He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas, Master's degree from Truman University in Missouri, and his doctorate from the University of Arkansas.He was a member of the American and Arkansas Voca-tional Education Association; National Education Associa-tion; and Phi Beta Kappa. He was past president of the Melbourne Lions Club and was a former member of the Melbourne Fair Board Association. He chaired various clubs and events including the March of Dimes and the Red Cross. He was a member of the Melbourne Church of Christ.Survivors include his wife of the home, Jean Halbrook Hall; one son, Dennis Hall and wife, Kliffa of Colorado Springs, Colo; one daughter, Dianna Kay Nash of Maumelle; five grandchildren -- Mike Hilton of Melbourne Brandon Hall and wife, Karin of Austin, Texas, Damon Hall and Ryan Hall both of Colorado Springs, Colo, Amanda Nash of Maumelle; one great-grandchild Erika Hall of Austin, Texas; two nieces -- Connie and husband Leland Jackson of Myron; and Shirley and husband, James H. Gaston of Melbourne; and a host of other relatives and many friends.He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers -- Thomas Dempsey Hall and Roy Gene Hall.Services were Dec. 22 at the Melbourne Church of Christ with Eric Williamson and Don Womack officiating.Pallbearers were Rick Halbrook, Keith Halbrook, Brandon Hall, Ryan Hall, Wayne Halbrook, Jerry Halbrook, Damon Hall, Troy Gaston and Nayne Dockins.Honorary pallbearers were Al Gillihan, Ken Bone, David Clark, Danny Beebe, Charles Cheatham and Wesley Miller.
