Clifford Lowell Coggins Sr. died Dec. 30, 2002, following a battle with pancreatic cancer.Born Oct. 5, 1918, in Glencoe, he was the son of John Henry and Alberta Mae Coggins. He married Helen Louise Snow Feb. 6, 1943, in Houston.Following his service in the Aleutian Islands during World War II, he was transferred to the United States Air Force and moved to Midland, Texas, where he became a cadet bombardier instructor at Midland Army Air Force Base. He was owner and operator of Southwest Sales Company.Survivors include his wife of 61 years; a son and daughter-in-law -- Clifford "Sonny" Coggins Sr. and Linda Coggins of Odessa, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law -- Claudia Mae Hobbs and Tommy Hobbs of League City, Texas, and Iris Jean Riggs and Kevin Riggs of Odessa; three sisters -- Thelma Louise Henry of Milan, Tenn., Hazel Earlene Lewis of Midland, and Jurlene Violet Warren of Odessa; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters -- Patti Jon Coggins and Wanda Louise Edney; a sister --Wanda Nadine Coggins; and three brothers -- Winford Clyde Coggins, Wayne Dale Coggins, and Richard Glen Coggins.The funeral was Jan. 2 at Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ with Roy Smalling officiating. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens.Arrangements were under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
