David J. Hackworth, 65, of West Plains, was born June 19, 1937, in Couch, Mo., and died Oct. 10, 2002, in West Plains. He was married Aug. 2, 1957, to Connie Jean Ehrhardt in Warsaw, Ind. He was a welder at LaClede Steel Company in Alton, Ill, retiring in 1994 after 35 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and for the last several years attended the First Freewill Baptist Church in West Plains, Mo.
Survivors are his wife, Connie Jean Hackworth of the home in West Plains; two children, Gayla Goewey and husband, Larry of Cottage Hills, Ill., and Greg Hackworth and wife, Cassie of Couch; four brothers, Don and Barb Hack-worth of Hoxie, Larry Hack-worth of Ravenden Springs, Richard and Vida Hackworth of Pocahontas, and Ted and Trina Hackworth of Piggott; four sisters, Peg "Aline" and Jim March of Marshall, Mo., Mary Lou Dulaney of Hoxie, Doris and Jerry Engle of Mountain View, Ark., and Lacy and David Brown of Pocahontas; three grandchildren, Stefanie Withers and husband, Jason, Dale Goewey, and Kayla Goewey of Cottage Hills, Ill.; one great-grandchild Geoffrey (Little G.) Withers of Cottage Hills; many nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Lena Hackworth; one brother, Jim Hackworth, and one great-niece Laken.
Graveside services were Oct. 14, at the Myrtle Cemetery in Myrtle, Mo. with Rev. Ron Blanks officiating. Arrange-ments by Carter Funeral Home of West Plains.
