Hounds blow past Bearkatz

A fourth-period explosion helped propel the Salem Greyhounds past the Melbourne Bearkatz 60-37 Dec. 2 at the Dawg Pound in Salem.

Outscoring Melbourne 23-9 in the last frame, Salem (2-3) cruised to an easy win over the Katz (2-8) in 2AA-North action.

Phillip Taylor paced the Hounds with 16 points, and Kyle Estes added 10.

B.J. Gillaspie tallied 12 for Melbourne.

The Lady Hounds rallied from a first-period deficit to knock off the Lady Bearkatz 62-35 earlier in the evening.

Down 13-8 after one, Salem moved ahead for good in the second period to log the win.

Tori Watkins finished with 15 for the Lady Hounds, while Lairen Hall had 11, and Bailey Wagner scored 10.

A big double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds from Jason Sherrell helped the Izard County Consolidated Cougars to a 49-34 2AA-North win over the Greyhounds Nov. 30 at the Cougars' Den in Brockwell.

Down 21-17 at the half, the Cougars opened things up in the second half of play, using a 23-4 run in the fourth to put the Greyhounds away.

Jesse Dockins added 12 points and seven assists for ICC.

Chad Willett's nine points paced the Greyhounds.

The Lady Greyhounds opened 2AA-North play with a 67-57 win over ICC earlier in the evening.

Leading by a point (26-25) at halftime, Salem extended its advantage to 51-39 after three, on the way to a 10-point win.

Lairen Hall paced the Lady Hounds with 15, while Samantha Corsaut hit for 13, and Tabitha Hall 12.

Sammi Fowler's 22 points led ICC, and Brittney Richardson tallied 11. Lauren Cunningham posted 10 for the Lady Cougars.

The Hounds opened their week the victims of a triple-double posted by Cotter's Jordan Hurst, as the Warriors beat Salem 88-56 at Cotter Nov. 29.

Hurst hit for 13 points, 17 assists and 10 steals in Cotter's 32-point win.

The Warriors sped in front 12-0 to start the game and never looked back.

Chad Willett paced Salem with 19 points, while Dusty York added 11. Wes James hit for five points, with Taylor and Mike Innis tossing in four apiece. Alex Smith posted three, and Dustin Vaughn, Lance Powell, Devin Bozeman, Nathan Criss and Estes logged two points each.

On the girls' side of things, the Lady Greyhounds saw a 20-point lead at the half evaporate, forcing them to hang on for a tight 53-51 win.

Despite having a couple of chances to tie the contest in the final minute of the game, Cotter came up short, and Salem held on for the victory.

Lairen Hall led the Lady Greyhounds with 16, and Watkins added 15. Tabitha Hall finished with 10, and Samantha Corsaut had seven points, Carrie Johnson four, and Hanna Bray two for Salem.
