Johnie Moss of Salem, son of the late Fred Moss and Purlie Cooper Moss, was born July 21, 1928, in Heart, Ark., died Feb. 19, 2005, at his home at the age of 76 years. He was united in marriage to Orvena Jo Squire on Dec. 4, 1954, at Saddle, Ark. To this union three children were born.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, earning the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantry Ribbon.
He was employed for over 40 years by the North Arkansas Electric Coop as a line foreman, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a life member of the Salem VFW Post 9777, life member of the DAV and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Orvena Jo Moss of the family home; his children -- Jo Ann Moss of Salem, Johnice Owens-Bunch and husband Tim, of Springdale, and Johnie Ray Moss of St. Louis; a brother, Jim Bob Moss of Salem; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Moss; a sister, Audra Rhodes; a son-in-law, Wendell Owens; and his parents.
Graveside services were Feb. 21 at Salem Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem, Ark.
Military honors were provided by the Salem VFW Post 9777. Masonic rites were provided by Salem Lodge 418 F&AM.
