James Eli Williams, 78, son of the late Melvin Williams and Martha Robinette Williams was born Jan. 13, 1924 in Ava, Mo., and died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002 in Springfield, Mo. He was married Sept. 24, 1950 in Kansas City, Mo. to Lillian Walthall.He was employed by Wonder Bread Company in Kansas City, Mo. for 33 years and was a member of Local #218. He was a member of the Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Thayer.Survivors include his wife, Lillian of the home in Thayer; one brother, Huey Williams and wife, Bernadine of Orrick, Mo.; one sister, Mandy Wheeler and husband, Riley of Gunn City, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Molly Cantrell of Thayer; three brothers-in-law, Ray Bushmoyer of Oak Grove, Mo. Howard Walthall and wife, Duronda of Independence, Mo., and Dan Walthall and wife, Faye of Galena, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; and four sisters, May Gentry, Verbe Kelley, Dessie Bushmoyer and Faye Williams.Services were Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002 at 10 a.m. at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel with Jack Martin officiating. Burial was in the Thayer Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. of Thayer.Pallbearers were Randy Cantrell, Hugo Becker, Jason Novak, Tom Walker, David Walker, and Keith Jennings.
