Shaking off a disappointing performance against Van Buren the week before, the Alton Comets got back on the winning track with a tight 55-47 win over the Winona Wildcats in overtime Feb. 15.
With the contest locked at 44-all after regulation play, Alton posted the Big Spring Conference win by outpacing Winona 11-3 in the extra period.
Alex Wiggs led the Comet crusade with a game-high 27 points, while Justin Crews added 12. Dustin Tackitt logged seven, Bryan Joiner five, and Logan Simpson four for Alton.
As it turned out, Wiggs was just getting a good head of steam built up with his performance against Winona.
Scorching the twine for a game-high 30 points, Wiggs helped his Comet mates post a 55-47 non-conference win at Gainesville Feb. 18.
Ben Alexander added seven points for Alton, while Tackitt, Crews and Joiner posted six points apiece.
