Emerson seeks veterans' stories

Thursday, November 20, 2003

Staff Writer

MISSOURI -- Eighth District Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson announced last week that she is asking veterans of her congressional district, which includes Oregon County, to participate in a Library of Congress initiative to gather personal stories of persons who have served America.

The Veterans History Project is calling for submissions of all kinds of American veterans memorabilia from veterans and their families from all over the state.

"Memoirs, photographs, letters and oral interviews are the historical record by which we remember times of war. Grandchildren should interview their grandparents, students should interview members of their communities and veterans should interview each other. This is a marvelous opportunity to preserve the collective memories Missourians have of their service to our nation," Emerson said.
