Alleged burglar shot in leg

Thursday, November 20, 2003

An Izard County man was shot in the leg Nov. 5 after he allegedly broke into a home at 564 Knob Creek Road in Izard County.

Jamie Rush called the Izard County's Sheriff's Office to report that a suspect was trying to break into her home.

During her conversation with the sheriff's office, the suspect, Mitch Rush, allegedly disconnected the phone line, then kicked in the back door. Mrs. Rush shot the suspect with a .22-caliber pistol, according to authorities.

He was transported and treated at White River Medical Center. Chief Deputy Earnie Blackley said the incident is under investigation.

Several firearms were found at a residence when Blackley and probation officer Kenny Kendrick conducted a home visit at the residence of Vernon Moore in Wideman.

Moore was charged with possession of firearms by certain persons. He is incarcerated at the Izard County Detention Center. Bond has been set at $50,000.

Virginia Nederbroch, who was also at the residence, was charged with possession of an instrument of crime. She was released after posting $1,000 bond.
