The good news for Calico Rock was the fact that the Lady Pirates held Mammoth Spring's Kaycee Estes without a single point in the second half of play Nov. 11 as the two teams squared off in 2AA-North Conference play.

The bad news for Calico Rock was the fact that Estes went off for 22 points in the first half, outscoring the entire Lady Pirate squad, as the Lady Bears rolled to a 73-36 win over Calico Rock.

The Lady Bears' interior defense was stout from the get-go, forcing Calico Rock to look for most of their scoring from the perimeter where they struggled on the night.

Calico Rock managed just two field goals, and a pair of free throws in the first period, while Estes accounted for all but six of Mammoth Springs' first period points as the Lady Bears held a comfortable 21-6 lead after one.

Jessica Weems (12 points) posted the Lady Pirates' first field goal of the second period midway through the frame, but the Lady Bears continued to pour the coals to the fire by building a 42-14 halftime lead.

The Lady Pirates tried to mount a run in the third period, but big 3-pointers from Ann Whiteside (16 points) and Dana Carroll kept Calico Rock in the rearview mirror, as Mammoth Spring led 54-29 after three.

The Lady Pirates never had a chance to trim any more off the lead by scoring just seven points in the fourth period as the Lady Bears breezed to a big 73-36 win.

Madison Busch and Jodie Walsh chipped in with 10 each for Mammoth Spring, while Reannon Nave added seven points for Calico Rock.

The high octane running game of Mammoth Spring proved to be too much for the Pirates as the Bears posted a 67-50 win over Calico Rock in the evening's last game.

Seth Risner did most of the perimeter damage for Mammoth Spring with 20 points, while Wesley Whiteside took care of the middle with 14 points and 15 boards, as all 18 players on the Bears' squad saw action on the night.

Mammoth Spring jumped out to a 9-0 lead before Buster Branscum (eight points) got the Pirates on the board with a jumper at the 4:22 point of the first period.

Scottie Sanders (15 points) hit Calico Rock's third field goal of the first just before the buzzer as the Pirates were in a 20-6 hole after one.

The up-and-down the court play of the Bears kept Calico Rock off balance as Mammoth Spring stretched their lead to 44-19 at halftime.

Most of the Bears' regulars saw limited time in the second half as Mammoth Spring turned a 65-33 advantage after three periods into a final score of 67-50.

Travis Hamby tossed in 11 of his team high 20 points for the Pirates in the fourth period.

Adam Brown added 11 points for the Bears, while B.J. Tibbits and Tyler Mitchell finished with six each for Mammoth Spring.

Risner had another strong game with 19 points Nov. 14 as the Bears knocked off Sloan-Hendrix 81-72.

Brown, Whiteside and Derick Baldridge each chipped in with 14 points.

Mammoth Spring gears up to defend their home court against the Viola Longhorns Nov. 21, while the Calico Rock Pirates travel to Sulphur Rock Nov. 24 to tangle with the Wildcats.
