New state maps available

Thursday, April 22, 2004

MISSOURI -- Missouri Department of Transportations (MoDOT) 2004 official highway maps are now available.

The new maps are available free of charge and chart Missouri's 32,000 mile system of highways and bridges as well as major rivers, lakes, state parks and forests.

Improved map features include:

* Highlighted routes of the Lewis and Clark Trail, historic Route 66, the Katy Trail and eastern Missouri's Great River Road.

* Easy to locate emergency telephone numbers.

* Contact information for state travel resources.

* Lewis and Clark Resource information.

The 2004 map commemorates the bicentennial of Lewis and Clark's westward journey. The cover highlights the Corps of Discovery's voyage with portraits of Lewis, Clark and the Missouri River. A painting by Missourian Gary Lucy depicts the final supply inspection made before the group departed St. Charles.

Copies of the map are free and available at the MoDOT South Central Office at 910 Springfield Road in Willow Springs, highway rest areas, visitors centers and the Missouri Division of Tourism. Requests may be made by calling 1-888-ASK-MODOT.
