Betty Lea Wilburn Wilson, 75, of North Little Rock, Ark., formerly of Cherokee Village, died April 6 2004. Born June 2, 1928, in Elrod, Ala., she was the daughter of Rafe and Ophelia Wilburn. She started to work with the telephone company at a very young age in Birmingham, Ala.

She worked in Miami, Fla., and Memphis, Tenn., where she met Aubrey. They were married in 1948.

They went into the grocery business in Forrest City, Ark. They opened up the Big Star #4, a grocery chain. After a while they moved back to Memphis. Aubrey started his career in the insurance business where he spent the next 44 years in the business in Memphis, Jonesboro and semi-retired in Cherokee Village. He died July 4, 1996, in Cherokee Village. Betty Lea moved to North Little Rock in 1997, to live with her beloved daughter, Cindy.

Betty Lea loved life. Her passion was her love of her family, friends and babies. She was in love with nature, all of God's creations, the beauty of it all. She would say, "It takes my breath away."

Survivors include four children -- Cindy Wilson of North Little Rock; Nancy Wilson Lacy of Batesville; Ken Wilson and wife, Linda, of Cherokee Village; and Craig Wilson and wife, Sharon of Tallahassee, Fla.; six grandchildren -- Traci Wilson Benbrook and husband, Tony, of Longmont, Colo., Kristi Wilson Diffee and husband, Scott, of Little Rock, Kerry Wilson Anderson of Jonesboro, Corey Lacy and wife, Leslie, and Nicole Lacy, all of Batesville, and Clayton Drue Wilson of Tallahassee, Fla.; six great-grandchildren -- Kayla, Sara, Alex and Ashleigh Benbrook of Longmont, Colo., and Tyler and Ali Anderson of Jonesboro; three sisters -- Dean Bishop and brother-in-law, Donald Bishop, of Columbus, Miss., Betty Lewis of Starkville, Miss., and Sue Thompson of Columbus, Miss.; a sister-in-law, Peggy Wilburn of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and a very special aunt, Gussie Billings of Birmingham, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Horton Wilson; and her siblings --Gladys Fines, Lester Wilburn, James Wilburn, Bob Wilburn and Jerry Wilburn.

The funeral was April 9 at Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel in Highland with the Rev. Vern Forsberg officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Highland.
