MS students hear tar wars message

Thursday, March 11, 2004

On Feb. 18 approximately 80 students from Mammoth Spring heard the Tar Wars program.

Tar Wars, developed by the American Academy of Family Physicians, is a free tobacco education program designed for fourth and fifth grade students. The program discusses the harmful effects of tobacco use, how the tobacco industry markets their products, and the economic impact of tobacco use. Students also learn about ways to refrain from tobacco use and how to encourage others to stop using tobacco.

Members of the Fulton County Hometown Health Coalition who presented the Tar Wars program included Bank of Salem employees Donna York and Dawnesa Roper, and Hometown Health's Tobacco Control Coordinator Cindy Smith.
