Homer Earl Copeland, of Ash Flat, Ark., son of the late Richard Sylvester and Annie Seay Copeland was born Nov. 10, 1918, in Lake City, Ark. He died Nov. 6, 2003, at North Little Rock, Ark., at the age of 84.
He spent his working years as a father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a farmer.
He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the VFW Post 8042 at Evening Shade.
Survivors include special friend, Martha Guenther of Ash Flat; a son, Donald Copeland of Franklin, Ark.; three daughters -- Dorothy Despain of Lake City, Veronica Dark of Ames, Iowa, and Linda Sawyers of Germantown, Tenn.; one stepson and one stepdaughter; a brother, Elvis Copeland of Bridgeman, Mich.; four sisters -- Lily Mae Hooker of Bakersfield, Calif., Mildred Cody of Seadrift, Texas, Ludell Tudor Hyde of Bakersfield, and Willie Dean Lancaster also of Bakersfield; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Betty Ann Copeland; a brother, R.D. Copeland, and one sister, Thelma Louise Stevens.
The funeral service was held Nov. 9 at Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem, Ark., with Robert Lash and Sean Sawyers both officiating. Interment was in the Wiles Cemetery at Ash Flat with arrangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem, Ark.
Pallbearers were Sean Sawyers, Cederick Dark, Curtis Copeland, Donald Copeland, Rick Dark and Donald Sawyers.
Memorials are preferred to the VFW Post 8042 at Evening Shade.
