Wildlife Officer First Class Wade Spence has been named the National Wild Turkey Federation Officer of the Year for Arkansas.
Over the past year, two other officers have been bestowed with honors. Earlier this year, Wildlife Officer First Class Tom Harris was recognized as the 2002-2003 Waterfowl Enforcement Officer of the Year. Just last month, the Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies named Corporal Pat Fitts its Officer of the Year.
Spence, who lives in Mammoth Spring, will represent Arkansas in the selection process for this year's NWTF Officer of the Year. He is assigned to Lawrence County in Enforcement District C-1. Lawrence County is unique in that it is equally divided between the Delta's agricultural fields east of the Black River and the Ozark Foothills west of the river. Spence has maintained a 100 percent conviction rate over the past year.
