A Camp man died from injuries he sustained in a four-wheeler accident Aug. 16 in Fulton County.
Carl Lynn Elliott, 38, and passenger, Virginia Cunningham, of Camp were traveling along Republican Highway when the 2002 Polaris Sportsman four-wheeler Elliott was driving hit a 1988 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Ronald Goines, 33, of Melbourne, said Fulton County Deputy David Estes.
Goines was heading north on the highway pulling an 18-foot flatbed trailer and stopped on the east side of the road to allow the four-wheeler to pass, Estes said. Elliott, who was southbound, passed the truck but pulled back into the path of the trailer and struck the left fenderwell of the trailer. Both Elliott and Cunningham were thrown onto the road.
Estes said he thinks Elliott did not see the trailer behind Goines' vehicle.
Elliott was air-lifted to St. John's Regional Medical Center in Springfield, Mo., where he died the following day from head injuries, Estes said.
Cunningham was transported to Fulton County Hospital where she was treated and released the following day.
Cunningham's mother-in-law, Kay Cunningham, said her daughter-in-law doesn't remember any details about the accident.
Elliott was a 1984 graduate of Salem High School. He was owner of Elliott Heating and Cooling in Camp. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Camp Volunteer Fire Department.
