Willie Arizona Hovis, 86, of Ash Flat, died Aug. 17 2003, at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Ark. Born May 17, 1917, in Wolf River, Tenn., she was married to Walter W. Hovis June 9, 1951, in Winchester, Ind., and he preceded her in death in 1996. She worked for many years in nursing for the Central State Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind. She moved to the Sharp County area in 1972 from Indianapolis, She attended services at the Spring River Baptist Church in Hardy.

Survivors include a son, Franklin Hall of Mesa, Ariz.; a daughter, Virginia Bolella of Cherokee Village; a brother, Melvin C. Crouch of Somerset, Ky.; three sisters -- Delta Saddler of Somerset, Ky., Pearl Turner of Granite City, Ill., and Elvalene Davis of Granite City, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, three daughters -- Alberta, Mildred and Anna; and two brothers -- Charles and William Crouch.

The funeral was Aug. 20 at Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel in Highland with burial following in the Bronaugh Cemetery. The Rev. Floyd Rikard officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Highland.
