Zane Lyle Sanders, son of the late Owen E. and Zelma Garner Sanders, was born Sept. 21, 1924, in Calico Rock, Ark. He died Aug. 30, 2003, in Mountain Home, Ark. at the age of 78. Zane was married to Reba Garner Sept. 15, 1942, in Calico Rock. To this union, a son was born. Zane served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Navy. During his working years, he served as fire chief at the Richards-Gebau Air Force Base in Grandview, Mo. He was a member of the Calico Rock Presbyterian Church. In addition, he was a Blue Lodge member and a member of the Scottish Rites in Grandview, Mo.
Zane leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 61 years, Reba Sanders of the home; a son, Benjamin Owen Sanders of Mountain Home; a sister-in-law, Opal Moody of Mountain Home; four grandchildren -- Jennifer Speciale and Rebecca Sanders both of St. Louis, and Tim White and Chris White both of Kansas City, Mo.; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were Sept. 3 at the Calico Rock Funeral Chapel with Wayne Wood and Ed Matthews officiating. Burial was in the Roselawn Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home of Calico Rock, Ark.
Pallbearers were Chris White, Tim White, Hayden Noel Wyatt, Sanders Lee Wyatt, Ricky Knowles and Rex Dockins.
Honorary pallbearers were Reed Mack Perryman, Dr. Franklin Casey, Dr. John Lane, Terry Smith, Howard Fitzhugh, Earl Young, Stanley Sublett, Dean Hudson, Jim Hivley, Jim Fudge, Danny Moser, Harold Ray Jeffery, Buddy Rasmussen, Judge O'Keefe Barry, Jerry Hicks, and Abija Hughes.
