The First Community Bank/Black River Technical College Foundation Golf Tournament is scheduled for Sept. 13 at Rolling Hills Country Club in Pocahontas.
This year, the 10th for the annual tournament, marks a special year and beginning of a new level of fund-raising for the college, with the sponsorship of First Community Bank, which is underwriting the event with a $10,000 donation.
"We just are overwhelmed and so pleased with the generosity of First Community Bank," said BRTC Foundation Board Chair Scott Trammel. "Their sponsorship has allowed us to set as our fund-raising goal $20,000, nearly double what we netted in last year's event."
A major repeat attraction at the tournament is the opportunity to win a 2003 Chevrolet Truck, made possible by Baltz Chevrolet-Olds of Pocahontas. The vehicle goes to the golfer who makes a hole-in-one on hole #15.
This year's tournament features a new twist: golfers can elect to "purchase" a drive by golfer Ron Mangold.
The one-day, two-person scramble will get under way with tee times at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Team entry fee is $80, which is tax-deductible, according to tournament coordinator Jim Ulmer of BRTC. Entrants may take a free practice round on Sept. 12.
Payouts for this year's tournament are $240 for first place, $180 for second place and $140 for third place. In addition, closest-to-the-pin prizes will be available on all par threes with a payout of $100 for first.
All golfers will be treated at lunch to barbecue by "Big Dave."
The golf tournament is the major fund-raising event of the BRTC Foundation. Proceeds from the event support the efforts of BRTC to provide educational opportunities, with special emphasis to student scholarships.
