Recount called in 153rd state rep race

Thursday, August 29, 2002

OREGON COUNTY -- Oregon County Clerk Gary Hensley announced Aug. 27 that Missouri Secretary of State Matt Blunt has ordered a recount in the August 153rd District state representative race.

The recount was called after Republican candidate Tim Slayton filed a re-count request with Blunt's office in Jefferson City. Slayton lost the race by six votes to Alton resident Mike Dethrow. The vote total was Dethrow: 1,754 to Slayton: 1,748. The newly re-districted 153rd District is made up of Oregon, Carter, Ripley and portions of Wayne and Butler counties.

Hensley said as of press time he was not sure how and when the recount would take place and was still in close contact with Blunt's office on the matter.
