Nora Jane Caldwell

Nora Jane Caldwell, 83, daughter of the late Joseph Leamon Crawford and Temm Brewer Crawford, was born July 18, 1919, in Myrtle, Mo. and died on April 21, 2003, in West Plains, Mo.

She was united in marriage on March 30, 1935, in Myrtle, Mo., to Waymond Caldwell.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Thayer since 1955.

She was a Sunday school teacher, sang in the church choir and was a GA leader.

Her community activities included chairperson for the American Heart Association and chairperson for the American Cancer Fund. She was a past president of the Fidelis Club and a member of Order of Eastern Star, Mt. Zion Chapter 229 in Thayer.

She was a homemaker and was receptionist for Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer for several years.

She was a good woman, a devoted wife and mother, who loved everyone and was loved. She will be missed and remembered for her kind and loving ways.

Survivors include her husband, Waymon of the home in Thayer; three daughters -- Margie Shipp of Thayer, Pat Best and husband, Paul, of Mammoth Spring, and Bonnie Jo Dickerson and husband, Ralph, of Park Hills, Mo.; eight grandchildren and their families -- Margi Cook and husband, Mark and their sons, Ben and Andrew of St. Louis, Mo., Vicki Temm and husband, Scott Bohnenkamp of Austin, Texas, Ann Rolls and husband, David and their children, William and Sara, of Fredericksburg, Va., Paul Best of Gainesville, Fla., Robyn Richter of Thayer, Peter Best of Fairfax, Va., Andrea Richter of Thayer, and Patrick Best and wife, Sarah, of New York City, N.Y.; two step-grandchildren and their families -- Karen Oglesby and husband, Bill and their sons, Will and Matthew of Pecos, Texas, and Kathleen Drew and husband, David and their children, Olivia and Austin of Orange Park, Fla.; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and dear cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Joe Tom Caldwell; three brothers -- Noel, Orval, and Lawrence "Cot" Crawford; an infant brother; two sisters -- Nellie Burleson and Margie Crawford and an infant sister.

Graveside services were April 26 at Myrtle Cemetery in Myrtle, Mo., with Dr. Bill Banks officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Carter Funeral Home Inc. of Thayer.

Pallbearers were Larry Caldwell, Stanley Caldwell, Rocky Caldwell, Robert Lee Caldwell, Quinn Caldwell and Shann Caldwell.

Honorary pallbearers included Steve Caldwell, Ron Campbell, Joe Dan Tucker, Ray Helm, Joe Dan Caldwell, Denzill Caldwell, Mike Crawford, Ken Scott, Ray Whiteside and Clarence James.
