Edward (Ed) Dow Sights, 81, of 129 Easy Street, died Aug 9, 2005, at OSF Medical Center in Peoria, Ill. He was a former resident of Cherokee Village and Princeton, Ill.
He was born on July 10, 1924, in Linneus, Mo., to Robert and Gladys McCune Sights. He married Marilyn Couch in Troy, Kansas on Sept. 1, 1946. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons -- Daniel (and Paula) Sights of Washington, Timothy Sights of Princeton and Paul (and Stephanie) Sights of Little Rock Air Force Base; one sister, Katherine (and Robert) Duncan of Meadville, Ill.; one brother, Everett (and Jeanne) Sights of St. Louis, Mo.; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother, his father, and his mother who passed away in September of 2004 in Meadville, Mo.
He had been a teacher at Princeton High School prior to his retirement in 1985. He taught business, accounting and shorthand. At the school he operated the School Book Store and also drove a school bus for 20 years.
A veteran of World War II, he had served in the U. S. Navy in the South Pacific and the Phillipines.
He was a graduate of Linneus High School and received his bachelors degree in Education from Kirksville Teachers College (now South West Missouri State) and earned his masters degree in education from Bradley University.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Washington. He was also a former member of the Cherokee Village Golf Association and the Village Bible Church in Cherokee Village.
A memorial service was held at the First Baptist Church in Washington with the Reverend Rodney Groff officiating. Graveside services were at the Elmwood Cemetery in Linneus, Mo. on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Ralph Stone officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded. Mason-White Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
