William E. Scott, 66 of Cherokee Village, formerly of Alpha, Ill., died July 28, 2005 in St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, Minn.
He was born Oct. 6, 1938, in Galesburg, Ill., the son of Walter and Celina Lambin Scott. He married Mardena Trout on March 29, 1960, in Oneida, Ill.
Surviving are three daughters, Diana (and Tim) Wheeler, Alpha, Ill., Debbie (and Mark) Leach, Sycamore, Ill., and Doddie (and Terry Johnson) of Woodhull, Ill.; a son, David Scott; brother Robert (and Diane) Scott, Silvis, Ill.; special friend Aimee Giddings, Woodhull, Ill.; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He graduated from AlWood High School in 1956. He served in the Navy from 1956 to 1959 aboard the USS Fulton, a submarine tender. He was employed briefly as a watch repairman with Gumbinder-Leo Stine and in 1962 started as a brakeman for the CB&Q Railroad, retiring Sept. 29, 2000 as a conductor for the Burlington Northern Railroad.
He was a member of Spring River Baptist Church in Hardy, Omega Masonic Lodge No. 1067 Highland, VFW, National Transportation Union, Cherokee Village Sportsman's Club and a former member of the Moose Lodge.
He was an avid sportsman and liked to hunt and fish.
The funeral was held at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Private burial will be later.
A memorial fund has been established.
