A committee formed to hire a permanent 9-1-1 coordinator met March 1 and formally offered the job to Debby Wells.Wells is a former dispatcher for Cherokee Village SID security and a current part-time dispatcher for the Sharp County Sheriff's Department.
According to Sharp County Judge Harold Crawford, there were 25 applicants for the job. The committee was comprised of JPs, mayors and area residents.
"We had so many good applicants for the job, and it was very difficult to make a decision. But the committee hired the person they thought would be most suited for the position," Crawford said.
