MS Chamber elects officers, discusses tourism events

MAMMOTH SPRING -- The 2004 Mammoth Spring Chamber of Commerce officers were elected at the club meeting Nov. 13. New officer are Steve Russell, president; Tom Hoffman, vice president; Joan Baker, secretary; and Barbara Gantner, treasurer.

The club met at Stateline Restaurant with 26 business owners and operators present.

They discussed plans for the Dec. 6 chamber banquet to be held at Riverbend Restaurant.

Prizes and events were discussed for the Dec. 13 Christmas parade. The chamber plans to award a "Best of Parade" prize in several categories. It also had planned a Christmas caroling contest. The prizes will be sponsored by McKeller's Fresh Market, Allen American Realty, Pizza 500, Radio Shack, Lighthouse Café, Ozarks Internet and FNBC.

Cathy Drew of Ozarks Gateway Tourist Council in Batesville was the guest speaker. She discussed the council's role in promoting tourism in the Mammoth Spring area. The council produces an annual publication that generates over 20,000 contacts a year from tourists interested in this area of the state. Mammoth Spring has a two-page ad in the publication that was paid for by local business owners.

The Dec. 11 council meeting will be at Pizza 500.
