Thayer Junior Beta compete

Friday, November 28, 2003

THAYER -- Last month 22 members of the Thayer Junior Beta Club went to Three Rivers Community College for the first ever Missouri Junior Beta Convention. Advisor Trudy Britton and high school principal Kevin Hedden accompanied the students.

There were several categories the students could have entered to qualify for national contest, including essay, math, spelling, sculpture and more. Only one member of the local Junior Beta Club, Micah Stevens, a seventh grader entered the pencil sketch category. Next year Britton said more students should participate in the contests..

Junior Beta members have decided to collect the pink lids on Yoplait yogurt to send to the Cancer Research Center. The company will donate money for each lid donated. Junior Beta is asking the community to help them. Anyone interested in helping collect the labels is asked to call Britton or drop off the labels at the high school office.

Thayer Junior Beta officers are Jordan Hyde, president; Meridith Lindberg, vice president; Krysta Adams, secretary; Sarah Dills, treasurer; Sara Riley, reporter and Allison Cater recreational chairman. The article was submitted to the SMN by Sara Riley, reporter.
