Area athletes amed All-State Basketballers

The 2002 Arkansas Activities Association All-State Basketball team finds several area hoopsters being honored for their outstanding seasons. Katie Caraway, a Mount Pleasant senior, was named to the Class A All-State Basketball team for the fourth time in her impressive career.

An Arkansas State signee, Caraway averaged 24 points and seven rebounds for the 33-7 Lady Bluebirds.

Mount Pleasant reached the quarterfinals of the Class A State Tournament.

Senior Justin Batterton led the Viola Longhorns to their first state championship since 1957.

Batterton has been named to the Class A All-State Basketball team.

Batterton paced the Longhorns in scoring and assists this year and was named the MVP of the Class A State Tournament.

Melbourne Bearkat Patrick Davidson makes his second apperance on the Class AA All-State Basketball team.

Davidson, who will attend Lehigh next fall, averaged 19 points for the 37-4 Bearkatz.

Davidson helped lead Melbourne to an undefeated run through the 2AA-North Conference and into the state tournament.

A double-double average of 16 points and 10 rebounds highlights Lady Bearkatz Ashley Brown's selection to the Class AA All-State Basketball team.

The senior paved the way for Melbourne to win the 2AA-North Conference this year.

ICC senior Shane Irgens makes the Class AA All-State Basketball team with a double-double average of 22 points and 11 rebounds.

The Cougars relied on the 6'5" Irgens for a big inside presence.

The Mammoth Spring Lady Bears leading scorer and rebounder, Chelsea Tyson, was named to the Class AA All-State Basketball team.

The senior's 17 points and 11 rebounds helped the Lady Bears to a runner-up finish in the 2 AA-North District Tournament.
