James Robert Baker, 54, of Sage, son of the late Don and Lula Mae Swope Baker, was born May 29, 1948, in Albuquerque, N.M. He departed this life Sept. 1, 2002, in Columbus, Wis. During his working years, he was an electrician. He served in the United States Army for 24 years, and was a soldier in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Sage Baptist Church.Survivors are one son, James Robert Baker Jr. of Beaver Dam, Wis.; one long time companion Lea Priewe; three brothers, Donald Ray Baker of Lake Tahoe, Calif., Bobby Baker of Sage, and Joe Baker of Mount Pleasant; one sister, Martha Oliver of Batesville; his grandmother, Vesta Baker of Melbourne; and a host of other relatives and many friends.He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.Services were Sept. 4, 2002, at the Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel. Burial was in the Melbourne Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.Pallbearers were Steve Wheeler, Michael Dale, Connie Johnson, Conway Miller, Jerry Blankenship and Tom Fischer.Honorary pallbearers were Howard Lamb, Brock Wheeler, Ronald Moser, Harold Stroud, Gary Graham and Clay Hanley.
