Helen McKenzie Prejean, 89, of Horseshoe Bend, Ark., was born April 27, 1915, in Surgeon, Mo., the daughter of John McKenzie and Flora Welch McKenzie and died March 24, 2005, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Ark.
She was married to Willie Starbuck from 1934 until 1944. She later married Glynn Prejean in 1954. She was a member of the Texas Teachers Association, AARP, Delta Kappa Gamma, Horseshoe Bend United Methodist Church, and taught school at Van Buren Elementary School in Grove, Texas. She had been teaching since the age of 17.
Survivors include a daughter, Glenda Schulderberg of Sugar Land, Texas; a sister, Nell Sloan of Jefferson City, Mo.; a granddaughter, Andrea Schulderberg; and many nieces and nephews. She was well loved and will be surely missed by friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John McKenzie and Flora Welch McKenzie; first husband, Willie Starbuck; her second husband, Glynn Prejean; two brothers -- Walter McKenzie and Carl McKenzie; and four sisters -- Allene McKenzie Burnett, Marjorie McKenzie Moore, Naomi McKenzie Hague and Edith Gertrude McKenzie.
A memorial service will be April 23 at Horseshoe Bend United Methodist Church at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Ashcraft officiating. Arrange-ments are by Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel.
