MAMMOTH SPRING -- The Mammoth Spring Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ladies Auxiliary will hold the annual Loyalty Day Parade and activities April 30.
The theme for this year's event will be "American Pride."According to Dorothy Parks, local auxiliary president, there will be cash prizes for all those who enter the parade and have an entry number. She said the parade will line up between noon and 12:30 p.m. at the Mammoth Spring Fire Station. The parade will start at 1 p.m. and go down Main Street.
Parks said the parade will be led by the VFW marching Color Guard, followed by flag units, patriotic units, Loyalty Day contestants, floats, bikes, ATVs, youth walkers, adult walkers, antique cars and horses and wagons. Parks said bands will be placed throughout the parade.
The patriotic program will follow the parade starting at 2 p.m. The Loyalty Day contestants will be crowned following introductions, patriotic speeches and award presentations.
"A few special guests will be attending the activities at the park. They include VFW Auxiliary State President DeAnna Hatch, who will be the guest speaker for the day. Also attending will be District 2 President Sue Vanderpool. The parade grand marshal will be Carrie Haney, who is a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 7831. The Little Rock Air Force Base Honor Guard will also be at the ceremony," Parks said.
Float prizes will be $75, $50 and $25 based on flags, theme, decorating and impression. Bikes and ATV prize money will be $15 based on costuming. All entries should use a flag. Antique car prize will be $15 based on the judges' opinion.
